When building a network, installing cabling is not always a practical or
cost-effective solution. Wireless network technologies offer an
alternative solution for data and voice connectivity. Both radio-frequency
and infra-red systems can be used for external building to building
applications, whilst radio-frequency may also be used internally. In
addition, microwave technology can be utilised for external long distance
connectivity.
WLAN Networking
SEC Datacom supplies and installs the EdgeWare & Proxim product range of
indoor and outdoor wireless networking products. Amongst the many
applications are problematic buildings where connections are needed in an
area with a solid marble or concrete floor. EdgeWare & Proxim is also
ideal for environments such as hospitals, where radio interference on
mobile data connections is not acceptable. Temporary networks for training
rooms or exhibitions can be set up in minutes, without any need to install
cabling. These systems provide extensive coverage areas and a seamless
connection for hot desking.
Point to Point Wireless Networking
SEC Datacom supply and install both infrared and Radiowave links which
connect voice and data networks over line of sight. Each unit is compact
in dimensions and can be mounted on a wall or roof, usually within a day.
The units have the advantage of being portable, low-cost and offering
high-bandwidth over long distances.
